A dialogue session on the role of religious leaders in combating violent extremism and spreading the message of peace

As part of the project “The Role of Religious Figures and Digital Creators in Preventing Extremism,” implemented by Al-Tayyiba Relief and Development Organization with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and as part of the #Civil_Society_Fund_Wasl initiative,

An important dialogue session was held under the title “The Role of Clerics in Combating Violent Extremism and Spreading the Discourse of Peace,” in cooperation with the Sunni Endowment Office in Fallujah. The session was attended by a group of clerics and imams, as well as representatives from the Fallujah Governorate.

The challenges facing society in combating violent extremism were discussed, as well as ways to enhance the role of clerics in spreading a culture of peace and tolerance.

During the session, attendees emphasized the importance of sound religious guidance, which contributes to protecting youth from extremist ideas. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between religious institutions and local government to provide an environment conducive to peace and peaceful coexistence.

For their part, they noted that the role clerics can play in guiding society is not limited to religious preaching, but extends to active participation in spreading the concepts of peace, justice, and equality, contributing to societal stability and protecting it from violence and extremism.

At the conclusion of the session, the need to intensify joint efforts between clerics, the government, and civil society organizations was emphasized to achieve the goal of combating extremism and promoting a culture of peace in local communities.
