Attending the Iraqi Women and Civil Society Forum “Leadership and Influence” under the slogan “Towards a Sustainable and Innovative Future”

The Iraqi Women and Civil Society Forum under the theme “Towards a Sustainable and Innovative Future.” was organised with the participation of over 50 civil society organisations that support women’s rights, sustainability and development, in collaboration with the adviser to the Prime Minister for civil society organisations, Sara Allawi.

Sara Allawi stressed the significant role of civil society organisations in empowering women and the need to create a safe and empowering spaces for women. Sara also highlighted the gap of women in political decision-making and the importance of women taking up high-level political roles.

Sara Allawi added that, “Youth, particularly young women, are capable of bringing about real change through their active participation in societies, which will contribute to social and economic development, innovation and sustainability.”

The advisor commended the government’s efforts led by the Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in supporting CSOs and women through capacity-building projects. Nevertheless, women continue to face serious challenges. She affirmed her commitment to defending and advancing women’s rights and their role in society, as well as her support civil society organizations.

The forum was attended by foreign missions and a number of state dignitaries.
