Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid Announces the Launch of the “Environmental Ambassadors Association”

At the kind invitation of Her Excellency, Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid,

the Al-Tayyiba Relief and Development Organization attended

a dialogue session with a select group of heads of civil society organizations concerned with the environment, and heads of volunteer teams in Baghdad and all governorates, including the Kurdistan Region.

Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid emphasized that one of the ministry’s most prominent roles is oversight. She pointed out that this role is not limited to ministry staff alone, but is fundamentally linked to receiving citizens’ complaints and cooperating with volunteer teams and civil society organizations to strengthen this role.

The minister added that environmental awareness is not the sole responsibility of the government, but rather a shared responsibility with media, educational, and religious institutions. She explained that the ministry in this government is serious about activating partnerships by involving these institutions in various awareness campaigns, especially in areas such as water and soil pollution.

She explained that these two issues will be among the Ministry’s top priorities, emphasizing that the Ministry of Environment will not hesitate to hold accountable any entity, whether from the public or private sector, that contributes to water or air pollution. In this context, the Ministry decided to form the Environmental Ambassadors Association, which will include these individuals, organizations, and others, covering all governorates, districts, and sub-districts. This association will serve as a key supporter in spreading environmental awareness among all segments of society, from children and youth to educational and university institutions.

Thank you to Mr. Amir Ali Al-Hassoun,

Director General of the Environmental Awareness and Media Department,

for his efforts in organizing this dialogue session.
