As part of the initiative (It’s Time for the Women of Iraq)

Asuda Organization, in partnership with the Presidency of the Republic of Iraq and the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, organized a consultative meeting to discuss the legal and practical steps required to resubmit the Draft Law on Protection from Domestic Violence.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, with the participation of representatives from the Presidency of the Republic of Iraq, the Council of Ministers, the Iraqi Council of Representatives, the Presidency of Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, alongside representatives of international institutions and civil society organizations.

During the meeting, I highlighted the importance of discussing the necessary legal and practical steps to resubmit the Draft Law on Protection from Domestic Violence to the relevant authorities and work toward its adoption, with the aim of ensuring safety and protection for families, particularly women and children.

I also emphasized the importance of this meeting as the launch of a broader advocacy and support campaign aimed at bringing together governmental, legal, and civil society efforts to advance the adoption of the law.

At the end of the meeting, several recommendations were presented to identify a clear legal pathway for resubmitting the draft law and moving forward with its adoption.
