The women’s delegation was headed by Ms. Khanum Latif, and included a select group of representatives from various organizations and activists in the field of women’s rights. Engineer Tayyiba Al-Qaisi represented the Al-Tayyiba Relief and Development Organization. During the meeting, she emphasized the importance of continuing to support and empower Iraqi women in various fields, particularly in economic and social spheres, and of enhancing women’s presence in decision-making positions. She also discussed the challenges facing women in light of current changes.

The meeting also included congratulations to His Excellency the President on assuming office, as well as discussions on key issues related to the situation of Iraqi women and ways to enhance their active participation in society and state institutions.

During the meeting, the President affirmed the Presidency’s support for initiatives and programs that contribute to strengthening women’s rights and expanding their role in the development and reconstruction process. He commended the significant role played by Iraqi women’s organizations in serving humanitarian and social causes.

For its part, the Al-Teeba Relief and Development Organization expressed its thanks and appreciation to Ms. Khanum Latif for her distinguished efforts in gathering and unifying the voice of women’s organizations, and her continuous commitment to supporting the issues of Iraqi women and enhancing their presence in various national forums, praising her leadership role and tireless efforts in serving and empowering women.

The session witnessed a distinguished and active participation from a select group of representatives from Iraqi ministries and civil society organizations, along with a number of prominent academics, media figures, and community leaders, which lent significant importance and depth to the discussions.

The session aimed to shed light on the reality of women’s rights in society and to listen to diverse opinions and experiences, contributing to the development of practical visions that support the development of effective initiatives that enhance women’s status and support their rights.

The session featured constructive and interactive discussions, reflecting the participants’ commitment to finding practical solutions to the challenges facing women. They emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies and civil society organizations to achieve tangible progress on this issue.

At the conclusion of the session, the Taybeh Relief and Development Organization expressed its gratitude to all attendees for their valuable participation, affirming its commitment to continuing to organize such events that contribute to strengthening community dialogue and upholding the principles of justice.

Participants in the Women Speak for Peace program continued to build on their experiences by engaging in environmental justice initiatives, contributing to regional advocacy efforts, and participating in broader networks that support gender equality and climate action. Some also helped establish the Middle East and North Africa Women and Gender Network (MENA WGC), expanding their impact beyond local contexts.

These ongoing efforts demonstrate how sustained support and leadership development can lead to long-term engagement, stronger networks, and meaningful contributions to decision-making at both the national and regional levels.

The Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs, in cooperation with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), launched a Climate Educator Training Course in Baghdad, with the active participation of members of the Iraqi National Women’s Team.

The course aimed to enhance environmental awareness and build the capacities of participants in the areas of climate change and sustainability, contributing to national efforts to protect the environment and empower women to lead climate initiatives.

The Climate Educator Training Course, organized by the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs in cooperation with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), concluded with the active participation of members of the Iraqi National Women’s Team.

The course included introductory sessions on climate change, its causes and effects, and ways to mitigate its negative impacts. It also focused on training qualified women to become climate educators who contribute to raising environmental awareness and strengthening community response to climate challenges.

This course is part of efforts to support the role of women in environmental and climate issues and enhance their participation in sustainable development.

Iraqi National Women’s Team

December 10th is International Human Rights Day, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In Iraq, this day represents a victory over terrorism—the defeat of ISIS.

Every year on this day, Czech embassies around the world invite civil society activists, diplomats, and human rights defenders to a working breakfast to discuss the challenges facing human rights globally.

The meeting aimed to discuss the situation in Iraq following the October elections, the formation of the government, the current situation and challenges, and to formulate recommendations from Iraqi civil society on how to address these challenges related to human rights, activists, and campaigns against women.

(It is worth noting that the Embassy of the Czech Republic commemorates this day annually as part of its national culture.)

Al Sharq Al Basita Foundation is pleased to invite you to participate in our consultative meeting to review and discuss solutions for enhancing access to finance within the framework of the project: Sustainable and Inclusive Financing for Small Business and Agricultural Projects, funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

This meeting aims to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to financing mechanisms, review the project’s achievements, and develop:

Practical recommendations that support the development of a sustainable and inclusive financing model that serves entrepreneurs, farmers, and marginalized groups,

enhancing the effectiveness of financial and development products in the region.

At the invitation of the Iraqi Women’s Network, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, a conference was held to launch the “CEDAW Shadow Report,” as part of the project to prepare the shadow report for discussion before the CEDAW Committee in February 2026.

The conference included a review of the report’s preparation stages and a discussion of the most prominent issues related to women’s rights in Iraq, such as international obligations, national legislation, political participation, and gender-based violence.
