Protecting Women… Solely the Family’s Responsibility?

The results of the study “Community Awareness of Women’s Rights in Baghdad and Anbar” revealed that for some members of society, the concept of women’s protection is still primarily linked to the family and tribe, before resorting to the law or relevant authorities.

But… is protecting women solely the family’s responsibility?

Effective protection requires an integrated system based on:

🔹 Women’s awareness of their rights and the mechanisms for obtaining them.

🔹 Access to protection and support services when needed.

🔹 Activation of existing laws and protection mechanisms.

🔹 The role of the family, community, and relevant institutions in preventing and responding to violence.

🔹 Building a community environment that rejects violence and discrimination and respects women’s rights.

Protecting women is a shared responsibility… and awareness of rights is the first step towards protection.

💬 In your opinion, when a woman is subjected to violence or any violation, to whom should she turn first?
